Ezine Article #1 is published!

In a previous post, I said that EzineArticles rejected my very first article I submitted to them because it violated one of the terms. Instead of fixing it, I submitted a completedly different article that I was sure would be accepted in no time. I was only half right.

An associate editor at EzineArticles did repond quickly but only to tell me that I had violated another one of their terms. This time, I supposedly used html tags that were outside the scope of tags they allow. I scratched my head in confusion. I was very meticulous in adhering to their tag rules. Then it dawned on me that the person reviewing my article may not be versed in html.

I pleaded my case, explaining how I only used the allowable tags and no others. I did not receive any reply from them, so I thought the worse. This morning, I finally got the guts to log in and find out the verdict. To my pleasant surprise, not only had they accepted my article and placed it live, but that there have been 77 views to date and one vote. Woo hoo!

Wealthy Affiliate -- Week 2 Assessment

Hi All! I've been scarce this past week, I know. Let me tell you what I've been up to.

I read "BeatingAdwords", "Inside The List", and "The Worn Paper System". The first two ebooks are written by Kyle and Carson, founders of Wealthy Affiliate. The latter is by Sara Brown. I came across her ebook from one of the affiliate marketing email subscriptions I opted into. I'm sure glad I read these three, because I think they each tap into distict aspects to affiliate marketing, rounding out my foundational learning.

Do you recall that I submitted my first article in EzineArticle? Well, it was rejected because the article violated the terms of agreement. I apparently have some things to learn about my choice of words and writing perspective. Instead of re-writing the artilce, I modified an existing article that I wrote for Squidoo (another thing I did this past week) and submitted it to EzineArticles. I am confident this one will be accepted. That makes three articles total -- one on EzineArticles and two on Squidoo.

I'm still at my infancy when it comes to knowing the power of Squidoo. There's an ebook out there that I hear is really excellent. It's called,
"Social Networking On Squidoo"
. I decided not to purchase it at this time. I want to concentrate my efforts on the basics of affiliate marketing first. As well, I think I'm a fairly computer savvy enough to figure out how to utilize Squidoo to be financially rewarding for me. It will be especially beneficial when I actively promote my niche.

That brings us to the next accomplishment of the week. One, I placed my first PPC campaign on Google Adwords. Carson from Wealthy Affiliate logged into my Adwords account and critiqued it for me. This is another benefit to being a Wealthy Affiliate member. I get personal support. One of the things Kyle and Carson do is help us out with our Adwords account. This benefit is priceless, because a PPC campaign can be very expensive if not set up correctly.

My first PPC campaign promotes an affiliate marketing product. Initially, my keywords were so specific that, although they were 5 cents per click (CPC), they were not getting any impressions. Carson gave me a heads up on my keywords, that they were very specific. But, being the noob that I am, I had to learn what he meant. Now I know.

No impressions means that no one is typing in those keywords. So, I modified the keywords to make them a tad bit more generic. The ads were receiving impressions, but my ad was NOT being viewed on the front page, thus receiving zero clicks. On top of that, my CPC max was at 70 cents. Also to my observation, I started noticing a trend as to the time of day the impressions counter would increase and when they stayed the same. There is so much learning I'm going through by just watching the stats on my campaign. The good thing is that I haven't paid for anything yet (there's still that little bit of fear in me that I won't get any sales but have shell out in clicks). The bad thing is that I haven't received any clicks yet, leaving my click-through rate (CTR) at zero. My bottom line was also at flatline.

There's no reason for concern, however, since I am learning a lot and not at high dollar cost to me. My most iimportant lesson learned is the importance of choosing a niche market. Especially for beginners, it's important to promote products that has little competition. This thought got me down for a couple of days, but after some deep thought as to what niche market I could enter, I came up with an idea. I'll let you know how it performs.

By the way, I logged onto Squidoo this morning to find that my two articles are ranking significantly better. One was ranked at 86,000+ initially. A few days later, it's at 12,000+. The second one dropped 3000 to about 9000+. This tells me two things. One, the first article that started at 86000+ ranking is in a competitlve category. Two, the second article is in a significantly less competitve category. This tells me a lot about which niche is potentially more profitable for a noobie like me.

I spent many hours over the weekend into getting my website up. I chose a template from Open Source Web Design, uploaded it to my virtual dedicated server. You don't need to get a dedicated server to do what I did this weekend. I just like the flexibility it gives me to be able to do whatever I want on the web server. This is the computer geek coming out in me. But don't sweat my overkill. All you need is an affordable hosting plan.

I modified the template to suit my needs, replacing the images with my own.

I have to back up at step and tell you that I purchased Snapz Pro X 2, a screen and video presentation software built for a Mac. Yes, I run my biz proudly on a power pc Apple laptop! I played around with Snaps yesterday and am now able to create and screenshots and modify them to my linking, giving me control of the images I want to place on my website. This is a powerful tool that will also allow you to record your moves on the computer and save them as a movie file. Way cool. Will have to play around with that feature later.

My website is going to serve as the landing pages to my ads and artilce links. I will also implement email marketing methods I read about in
"Inside The List"
. This means getting an Aweber account, something I have been thinking of doing but needed a justified to do so. That time is nearly approaching.

The most effective method of attack is to get the pages up and start writing ads/articles that point to them. Then, I should gradually implement stage 2 -- email marketing and my niche.

My niche servers three primary purposes - to serve as the bonus material for products that are not mine, to be a product for others to promote, and to create an email list, This is ambitious, but I know what I have to do to make it happen. So, stay tuned to my progress.

One more thing before I sign off. With all of the ads and articles I post, I am quickly drowning in all of this information. I can easily see myself not knowing where I have advertised what, what I need to do next, etc. To remedy this, I've created an excel spreadsheet that lays out my product promotions and the actions I've take on them. Therefore, I know what action items are outstand for each product. I encourage you to document, because this will soon overwhelm you if you don't keep your information organized and meaningful.

Lastly, take action for yourself. Surround yourself with a good support group like
Wealthy Affiliate
, take advantage of the resources that are available to you, write articles and ads to promote products, do a ton of market research, stay low-cost, take your time, learn by reading and doing, be creative, treat this as a business. Your success is in your hands.

Ezine Articles

By now you should have posted a few ads on USFreeAds. You know how to use the USFreeAds interface. You know how to use the "Enhanced classified using our easy to use HTML tools", which is a very excellent tool because it provides a lot of flexibility in formatting your ad.

With some ad writing experience under your belt, it's time to experiment with writing a full-blown article. ezinearticles.com is an excellent place to submit your articles to. Search engines love this domain. It is free to set up an account.

You are first allowed to submit only 10 articles, each one has to be reviewed and approved prior to posting. This takes up to a week. The review process is there to make sure you follow their rules of article writing. One very importing thing to note is that you cannot submit direct affiliate links in your article. Your signature (bio) at the bottom of each article is the place where you can post your website or blog (no direct affiliate linking here either). As well, you cannot write an article that directly advertises a product. You can write reviews, opinions, etc. about a product, however.

After you've submitted your 10 articles, you can upgrade to a higher status which allows you to submit 25 more articles. After that, you can petition for platinum status, which allows you to post an unlimited amount of articles. This highest status comes with the privilege of having your articles accepted much faster!

My account status is Basic, since I've only submitted one article so far and that was yesterday. I plan to submit more while I wait for my first one to be accepted. I encourage you to get started in making a good name for yourself within the ezinearticles.com community. Don't delay.

Wealthy Affiliate -- Week 1 assessment

It has been one week since I signed up as a Wealthy Affiliate member. I'm a pretty strong critic when it comes to finding value in a product or service. I demand excellence and see through *BS* quite easily.

I have this to say about Wealthy Affiliate: it is worth its weight in gold and then some! I will be staying a member for months and years to come.

I cannot stress enough what an excellent resource Wealthy Affiliate is. It is second to none. Kyle and Carson are two outstanding affiliates that are more than willing to share their wealth of knowledge to anyone that takes that initial step to be a Wealthy Affiliate marketer. This is not a sales pitch so much as it is a personal conviction. I am not alone in my opinion. There are many testimonials on the internet that rave about the Wealthy Affiliate program.

By being a part of this program and network of people, you give yourself a means to...

+ shorten your learning curve
+ provide a solid foundation for your online business
+ learn from top affiliates are actively and consistently earning thousands a day
+ surround yourself with like-minded people
+ have tools and resources to start your online marketing with relative ease
+ etc.

The people are nice
The web interface is user-friendly
The tools and resources are up-to-date (this industry is ever-changing)
The online community is tight-knit

If those reasons are not worth $1/day to you for trying it out for one month, then you'd be hard-pressed to find something better at a lower price.

Promote Clickbank Products

Now that you have a means of advertising, you are probably asking, "So, now what? What am I supposed to advertise?" There are countless products to advertise. We all know this. But what is not common knowledge is where to retrieve these advertisements. There is what's called "Affiliate Networks". These are companies that are the go-between for advertisers and affiliates.

Note these terms...

Affiliate: (also known as publisher) is one that promotes ads on behalf of the advertiser for a fee
Affiliate network: is an entity that provides a repository of ads on behalf of advertisers, while allowing publishers to retrieve those ads.

You must apply to be an affiliate for a particular affiliate network. There are many affiliate networks out there. You can join as many affiliate networks as you'd like, since each one is a separate entity. One of them is Clickbank.com.

Clickbank.com is a great network to join because the payouts are high, there are lots of products to promote, they are easy to promote, and you can even sell your own products through there.

As always, if you decide to join using my affiliate links that are throughout this blog, then I will gladly return the favor by being another resource to you. My email availability to you comes with one condition: that you become a Wealthy Affiliate member through my link and remain an active member throughout our correspondence.

Post Unlimited Ads On USFreeAds

I'm back! Twice in one day!

Here's my first attempt at posting free articles (see previous blog post). Or, in this case, posting almost free articles. Although USFreeAds allows for free accounts, functionality with free accounts is limited. I want the full unlimited affect! So, first I signed up to be an affiliate, meaning that for anyone that signs up on USFreeAds using the link below, I get a commission. Not a bad deal. And for you, if you use the link below, then I will gladly be available to you for email contact on the subject of posting on USFreeAds.

Free Classifieds

The reasons for choosing this not-so-free method as my first method in posting articles are...

1) I don't have to write full-blown artilces. I can write short, to-the-point ads. And for me who is not so confident in article writing (yet!), this is a perfect first step. And I do believe in baby steps!

2) Writing ads instead of full articles will give me lots of practice in writing adcopy for PPC campaigns. I will develop good habits in developing the perfect techniques, especially when it comes to choosing the right, relavent keywords.

3) I can write an UNLIMITED amount of ads at one LOW monthly PRICE. This takes away from the pressure of paying per click on my ads. I'm not yet confident on my adcopy writing, so I appreciate the fact that I can make as many mistakes as it takes for me to get better.

4) Search engines love USFreeAds, so I don't have to worry about driving traffic to my ad, although I'm not completely excused from the task. Which brings us back to the luxury of practicing good keyword techniques so that my ads can be easily found.

So here I go! I'll see you on the other side!

First, Get Confidence

Since I'm new to PPC affiliate marketing, and I have a limited budget, my approach to learning must be done cautiously. My goal in this learning phase is to get used to the methods outlined in the Wealthy Affiliate tutorials.

It costs me nothing but my time to write articles, because there are lots of websites that will post them for free. And best of all, those websites generate a ton of traffic. Search engines love those websites, so your articles have an excellent chance of getting high rankings. High rankings equate to high traffic potential to your articles. The more eyes that get to your article, the greater the likely hood that they'll be interested in your topic and in what you have to say.

BUT, even I have reservations in doing that. I'm human and humans find it challenging to do what they preach. It's all good and easy to say all of the right things. But when the rubber meets the road, then come the fears and the what if's. Hear are my reservations...

I'm not versed in writing articles, especially for all the world to read.
What if I my topics are so ridiculous that I end up making a fool of myself instead of making money?
What if my articles don't get any traffic because my topic is uninteresting and no one in the world would want to read about them?
What if my words don't get the point across and don't result in any sales?

But the scariest one for me is...

What if I never start because of all of my fears and concerns are stopping me?

After all, writing and posting articles is free, so really, what do I have to lose but my time? But then again, if I spend time TRYING to write articles, then won't I eventually get the hang of it? Won't I learn that much more about market trends and customer demands? Won't I learn how to promote a product, any product? Won't I learn how to use those article website interfaces (because each one is different) and learn the technical aspects of posting articles? Won't I learn how to optimize my articles so that they rank high in search engines? Won't I learn how to DO affiliate marketing? Won't I actually become an ACTIVE affiliate marketer? And best of all, won't I make money from it?

Because if I don't try, then I GUARANTEE myself NEVER to make money in this affiliate marketing industry. I have to remember that affiliate marketing is a MULT-BILLION dollar industry and growing! Many people are making money from it. And it doesn't take a genius to join those ranks. What am I waiting for? What's to hold me back?

So, here I go. I'm going to learn the methods to writing good, marketable, sale-generating articles. Wish me luck, and I too wish you success in your affiliate marketing journey.

I highly recommend WA

First of all, I thank you for finding my blog. I'm new to blogging and new to affiliate marketing. I've been like most people interested in the subject -- I've been scouring the internet for good, valuable, and affordable resources in kick starting my affiliate marketing efforts. There have been discouraging times when all I run into are pressure-filled websites telling me to "join now" to learn the "internet guru's secrets". I'm tired of the sales pitches just to get me to part with my hard-earned money. Can't I just find something that's reasonable and real?

I'm a one-day testament that I think I have found something real, affordable, valuable, and long-term. Have you heard of Wealthy Affiliate: an internet marketing university? They are exactly that -- a resource and support group to help a newbie like me learn the ropes of affiliate marketing. I signed up yesterday, and I have to tell you that I'm not bored with them yet.

I was skeptical at first, like most jaded and information-hungry newbies. But I couldn't find anything negative about them. I would type in things like "Wealthy affiliate is a scam" in search engines. Nothing. Instead, I found good testimonials. That got me interested. I finally decided to jump in feet first when I decided that I could risk $30 for one month's membership. That's way better than the leap of faith other "gurus" want you spend on their products. I will not spend hundreds of dollars not knowing what I'm getting into. But, I will spend $30 if I get with it not only reading material but actual tools to help me in my actual affiliate marketing efforts. Tools such as keyword helps, campaign tracking, and that all-important actual people support. There's a network of people that are members. I look forward to reading past forum posts to see what kinds of issues they run into as well as post my own.

After I signed up for the subscription through Paypal, I was directed to the login page. Upon login in, I saw a button at the bottom of the page that said I should start off with a 6-week course that will help me on my first campaign. Wow! That's worth my first month's membership!

I'll let you know how things turn out with me and my Wealthy Affiliate membership. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Posts are welcome. Please leave a comment. See you soon!
